Sahejmeen Kaur had recently made her debut in the Bollywood movie Rakshabadhan that also starred Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. The young actress was highly appreciated for playing the youngest sister of Akshay Kumar.

We got in touch with Sahejmeen to find out from her on how was it like bagging a Bollywood project, her childhood passion, working with Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar and more.

Tell us how did you bag the role of Saraswati in Rakshabandhan?

I got a DM on Instagram from Mukesh Chabbra’s team who got in touch with me for the movie and to be honest, I was worried if it was authentic. He told me that we are looking for four girls for a movie who would be based in Chandni Chowk. I gave it a thought and felt I should go for it and I made sure that I’ll send him my audition clip. I waited for like a month and then two but there was no response from their side. During Covid, I gave many auditions and when the lockdown was lifted, I enrolled myself in some dance classes so that I keep myself busy. God was great and the next day I got shortlisted and just like that I got selected and made it to the film. I was determined that I will not go back until I bag a project. Unfortunately the film got delayed due to Covid, until and unless we went to the sets and started shooting I couldn’t fathom it. Here we are and I’m happy to be part of the film. It was the first film that was shot right after Covid.

You have done theatre before this, are there any similarities or differences when it comes to theatre and Bollywood?

No doubt there is a vast difference in the two fields. As a theatre person, you grow as an artist and for movies its like your working for some high end content that needs to be delivered. Whether it is a movie or a play, I make sure I excel in either of the fields.

What was it like to be on sets and meeting Akshay Kumar and other actors?

I got star struck looking at Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. But most of all, I was awestruck with looking at the movie set. I had to keep calm and keep the fangirl relaxed in me because I’m an actor too and I had to be professional. It was crazy though but eventually I got used to it.

Akshay Kumar is known for his punctuality and staying fit, was there a point where you found it difficult to keep up with him?

I was also in this illusion that he is strict when it comes to being punctual and I may have to be just like him to get along, but I actually found him easygoing. He makes things very simple and I’ve learnt quite a lot from him. He is like this person who works at a particular time. If it wasn’t for Akshay sir, we wouldn’t have gotten the Sundays off and its obvious that once your shooting, its difficult to get an off from the hectic schedule.

How did your parents react when they came to know that you will be heading to Mumbai to be a part of a Bollywood project?

Initially they were hesitant for me to pursue acting as a career like any other parent. But now they have nothing but happy and super supportive for me. I’ve realized that you have to take your decisions regardless of your parents being against it, you have to prove to the folks that you can manage to take risks and see if it works for you. Now they feel I have scope in my acting career and they are rooting for me.

Were you always keen on becoming an actor from your childhood or you had other plans?

I always wanted to be an actor. I remember there was a girl who wanted to become an actor. It was like a two-year-old dream of mine and I’ve kept giving many auditions in hopes that I will get into something. I remember getting demotivated after returning from my dance class but just then I got a call for the audition. I guess it was more luck than fate. I took up theatre and dancing.

Lastly, what do you want to say to your fans?

Firstly I’m surprised that I made tons of supporters in a short span of time. I hope that the love for me does not stop and I promise to entertain my supporters with more projects. I have some projects lined up so hoping I receive the same love and appreciation as I did in Rakshabadhan.
