Exclusive! “After Mahabharat My Parents Were Confident That Their Boy Is Meant For Acting”, Rajjo Fame Niel Satpuda
The new show Udti Ka Naam- Rajjo is about an athletically-gifted girl from a village, who encounters Arjun, a rich but angry man, who saves her life during a calamity. However, they have to deal with the societal boundaries to be together.
Actor Niel Satpuda is set to be a part of the new show. He has been a part of many shows and some iconic ones like Mahabharat. We got in touch with him exclusively and talked to him about the show and the struggles he went through before getting into acting.
Tell us how did you feel when you came to know that you are selected for Rajjo?
I was very excited for this new concept show especially when they told me that I will be playing brother of the lead. When the production contacted me they explained me about the show and said I’ll be given next to the lead. My character name is Sagar Thakur. They told me everything about the nature of the character and how he is a happy-go-lucky person. In future as the show will pace you will see the different shades of the character. I’ve done Mahabharat so I’m ecstatic to be associated with Star.
Doing a mythology and a daily soap has its own differences. How do you choose your shows; based on what criteria?
I’m open to all. For legendary shows like Mahabharat you have to prepare yourself and it takes a lot of hard work. You have to learn the lines in ‘Shudh Hindi’ and can’t improvise. When you forget the line or blackout, its difficult to start again. I take such shows as a challenge. I enjoyed the show and I am also the part of Garrud where I played Lord Kartikeya. Now I’m doing this daily soap and also has a cameo in Humari Adhuri Kahaani. So a family drama has an all together different approach, match the real. Feel is very different. Most of the time you have to imagine while doing the scenes because there is a green screen. Mythological shows need a lot of training; with time you learn but as you gain experience you go like a pro.
How was it during the struggle that you faced. It’s always said that things are spoon-fed as person who has not any influence from big actors. So for you were you always wanted to be an actor?
Yes I always wanted to be one. Whenever I saw television I had decided to become one but how to do tell it to family. There is still this that its nothing but glitterati. So after I completed my engineering, I came to Mumbai and I started everything here. I went to the audience, advertisement and all. Back in 2013, the Blackberry phones was quite difficult to find addresses and there was no Whatsapp. So after Mahabharat there was a struggle on how to find shows and auditions. Its like a game of patience and slowly you pace towards success. I don’t like talking about my struggle, because everybody has their own share of struggles. But at the end of the day it all depends on how do you handle it, would you beat yourself to it all your life or will you use it as your weapon and work on yourself? I believe in going with the flow and take life as it is.
How did your family parents react to you getting into the showbiz?
Well, not only family but the entire colony knew what is there and what will happen in Mumbai. My father was like a little skeptical about me entering the television industry as an actor. He had questions going around his mind like ‘How is things happen for him in an unknown place and what is he going to do’. I came in 2013, he had told me just take up a normal 9-5 job and live a simple life because he was concerned about how will I single handedly take care of myself in an unknown city. That’s why my parents were worried sick about all of this. But I convinced them that let me give it a try. Initially they were like alright go and try it yourself and they felt I will leave Mumbai soon but after Mahabharat they were confident that their boy will do something.
What about the show? You must have shot quite few episodes now, so how is story pacing?
Yeah its a beautiful story. Something fresh and something new. The bonding on the show is also good. All the 4 brothers live very peacefully at the same time even the bond off-set is also great. We talk about personal life and show; on 22 August you will find the show on Starplus.
Is the show going to feature the four brothers in different shades?
Yeah definitely. Each brother is like different. Two brothers are together, one may have traits of jealously. Doesn’t like one and love others. All the ‘masala mirch’ will be seen. This show is one such show that is meant to be watched with your families and have fun together.
Apart from daily shows would you also venture towards realities shows like Jhalak Dikhhlajaa and Bigg Boss?
I haven’t thought about it but yeah if i get an opportunity ill definitely go. But Jhalak Dikhlajaa is something I would want to be a part of becasue I love dancing. Even Khatron Ke Khiladi would be interesting to try out.
Lastly, what do you want to say to your fans?
Please love this show as much as you have loved other shows. We will try our best to entertain you and win your hearts.
Catch Niel Satpuda as Sagar Thakur in Udti Ka Naam Rajjo on 22 August at 7 pm only on Star Plus.
