From Rooftop Kite Fights to Sweet Delights: Srishti Jain Reflects on Makar Sankranti Traditions
Makar Sankranti, a vibrant Indian festival, marks the onset of longer days, new beginnings, and the joyous harvest season. Known for its colorful celebrations featuring kite flying, intricate rangolis, and delicious treats like Til Gud Laddoos and Puran Poli, the festival fosters a sense of togetherness and warmth among families.
On this festive occasion, Srishti Jain, the talented actress from Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya, shared her heartfelt memories and plans for the day.
Srishti, who plays Monisha in the popular show, reminisced, “Makar Sankranti has always held a special place in my heart. Though I grew up in Bhopal, where kite flying isn’t as prominent as in Gujarat, the spirit of the festival—joy, togetherness, and fresh beginnings—remains the same. Since childhood, my favorite part of the celebration has been preparing and enjoying undhiyu. The rich aroma of this slow-cooked dish, made with seasonal vegetables and spices, fills our home with warmth and festivity. It’s a tradition I deeply cherish, as the process of making undhiyu together and sharing a hearty meal brings my family closer every year.
This year, I plan to invite loved ones over to celebrate with kite flying, savor the sweet tilgul, and, of course, make undhiyu. These little traditions fill our hearts with joy and create memories we treasure forever. Makar Sankranti truly reminds us to celebrate life’s simple joys.”
Srishti wished everyone a happy and prosperous Makar Sankranti, hoping it brings sweetness, positivity, and unforgettable moments to all.
