The Rap Monster turns 28. BTS RM birthday celebrations get army wooed
BTS leader and the rapper of the band RM aka Kim Namjoon turns 28 and the army is already counting down the hours for celebrations and the celebration is already begun. Let’s take a look at the journey of who turned out to become the most handsome man in this universe-
Childhood dream
RM has also been across the spectrum, dealing with brutal trolling, hate, allegations of chart manipulation, as well as plagiarism, and even death threats at one point. However, he has managed to keep his cool by dealing with the negativity that is thrown at him. In fact, in an old video, RM reads out all the hurtful comments against him where they attack him for his lyrics and say he can never be a K-pop idol.
A man of words
The power of words has been a sword-wielding RM since childhood. As a student, RM always enjoyed writing poetry and even won several awards.
He discovered his passion for hip-hop at 11 after hearing Epik High’s “Fly”. He later found Eminem and became interested in writing lyrics. In 2007 he started rapping in local fan circles and even made his self-composed recording for the first time.
He became an underground rapper and went under the name “Runch Randa” releasing tracks and collections with other underground rappers. His parents did not approve of his passion for music at 1 and the subsequent exclusion from his studies.
Either music or Academics
To convince his mother to let him be a rapper, he asked her if she “would like to have a son who would be a top rapper or a top 5000 student.” Auditing for Big Hit RM’s path to BTS wasn’t that easy either. In 2009 he auditioned for Big Deal records, and won the first round but failed in the second round because he forgot all the lyrics. Luckily, a rapper friend pushed him to audition for Big Hit (now HYBE), and the record label offered him a spot. Without consulting his parents, he accepted the offer and began producing the hip-hop group, now called BTS.
He started as a trainee with Min Yoongi (now known as Suga) and dancer Jung Hoseok (now J-Hope).
Why the name RM
During his time as an Idol trainee, he decided on the name RM. While it’s a common misconception to mean “rap like a monster,” it derives from the lyrics of a song he wrote, inspired by San E’s Rap Genius. He later mentioned that he had a love-hate relationship with the name. In 2017, he formally changed the name to RM because it no longer described his personality. ‘Real Me’ was given the best meaning.
Love for other members
From protecting Jin on stage to giving loving and encouraging group hugs, to holding an exhausted V after a night of endless performances, BTS and ARMY love RM for always looking out for his teammates and making sure they aren’t in trouble … physically exhausted from the constant whirlwind of performances and interviews.
And they support him too because they know that he finds it exhausting to constantly translate everything into English for them, especially after a hard day. The rest of the team detailed their feelings for RM in various interviews and expressed their gratitude. for the way speaking English helps them, among many other virtues. In fact, after RM’s UN speech, Jimin told J-Hope, “If we didn’t have RM, the idea is killing me. We didn’t do anything, it was all our leader. What would have happened if RM didn’t know English? We should be thankful that they exist.”
