After winning hearts with his directorial debut The Last Color, Indian-American chef, writer, filmmaker, and philanthropist Vikas Khanna is ready to present another human story entitled BarefootEmpress. He recently unveiled the poster for the documentary during an event in Kurla, Mumbai. The documentary tells the inspirational story of the legendary Karthyayani Amma from Kerala. It captures his unwavering spirit and determination as he firmly sets out on his path to a
college education and passes his fourth-grade exams with flying colors at the ripe age of 96. Amma dreams of studying through 10th grade.

The project has received recognition from several international film festivals and is now well on its way to hit Indian screens.

With this documentary, Vikas aims to stimulate the conversation about the education of girls and bring about changes at the grassroots level in the ecosystem. “Barefoot Empress is a story that will inspire viewers. It will make them believe in themselves and motivate them to work hard to achieve anything they want. This is a story of courage
and perseverance, it shows that age is just a number and that anyone determined to achieve their dream will do so regardless of obstacles,” said Vikas Khanna.

“Karthyayani Amma is not only an inspiration for girls, but also for everyone who dreams and wants to fulfill their dreams. Barefoot Empress has screened at many film festivals in the past, but it’s about time it reached every nook and cranny of our society. We hope that her story, her struggle, and her journey will encourage people to take a step towards their goals because it’s never too late.”

BarefootEmpress tour about the remarkable journey of Karthyayani Amma who, after being without access to education as a child, finally gets a chance to go to college and is 96 years old passing fourth grade. It’s a love letter to never give up on your dreams.

Directed and written by VikasKhanna, Barefoot Empress is produced by Oscar nominee Doug Roland.
